Roof Care Checklist for Stamford, CT Homes
Looking over your roof a few times a year can show changes before they turn into leaks. Every check here is done from the ground or the attic, and none of them replaces a roofing contractor's inspection.
Check the shingles with binoculars
Use binoculars to spot missing, curled or cracked shingles and lifted edges.
Check the attic
On a dry day, check rafters and decking with a flashlight for stains, damp insulation, mold or daylight.
Look over flashing and vents
From the ground, look at the metal around the chimney, skylights and walls and the boots around vent pipes for gaps or rust. Leave resealing to a roofer.
Watch the eaves and gutters
In winter, watch for thick icicles and ice ridges at the eaves; after rain, check gutters for shingle granules.
Keep the roof's paperwork
Store the install date, material, warranties, permit records and storm photos in one folder. If you notice a change or a returning stain, call to have the roof inspected.
